Traxati

Overview

The Traxati are an enigmatic, technologically superior civilization whose true nature, origins, and physical appearance remain entirely unknown to the Federation. Despite decades of awareness, no confirmed visual contact with a Traxati being has ever been made, and no Federation mission has penetrated deep into Traxati space and returned. Their activities are typically limited to their own territory, with rare and usually indirect interactions at the fringes of Federation space.

Known Technology

  • Gates: Massive spinning constructs, primarily composed of neutronium, capable of instantaneous transport of vessels and probes across vast distances. The gates’ purpose appears centered on resource acquisition. They can be expanded or modified over time, and are powered by large external motors that control their spin. The gates themselves are impervious to destruction; disabling the motors is the only known method to render one inactive.
  • Probes: Highly advanced autonomous machines capable of independent travel at sublight speeds. Probes can gather, process, and transport raw materials—especially neutronium—and are used in both gate construction and planetary resource assessment. Probes have been observed retrieving material from downed Traxati craft and attacking Starfleet and civilian vessels if threatened.
  • Offensive Weaponry: Probes and ships have been equipped with long, thin “needles” that can penetrate starship hulls or, in ground engagements, cause severe injury to personnel.
  • Vessels: Warships of unknown classification, displaying overwhelming firepower and resilience. Engagements have often resulted in heavy Federation losses, even for Sovereign-class vessels.

Behavior and Strategy

  • Primary focus appears to be on resource acquisition and gate expansion rather than territorial conquest.
  • Rarely initiate direct conflict unless their operations are threatened, although incidents of Traxati ships attacking other Traxati have been recorded.
  • Ignore most non-hostile vessels in operational zones unless interference occurs.
  • Federation presence near their gates or resource sites is met with hostility.

Notable Encounters and Events

Pre–2400s

  • Janus VI Incident – The original USS Archer was destroyed during a Traxati attack on Janus VI, resulting in the loss of 50 crew. This marked one of the earliest major recorded Federation losses to Traxati forces. (Exact stardate unknown)

Circa 2405–2406

  • Discovery of Tlaxcala Gate – A survey ship discovered a newly constructed Traxati gate within a year of its completion, near Tlaxcala Colony and uncomfortably close to Federation borders. Initial scans showed no activity until the events that followed. (Approx. 2406)
  • Probes at Tlaxcala Colony – Six Traxati probes emerged from the new gate, traveling to a crash site in a farmer’s field to harvest neutronium from a downed Traxati craft. Probes began assessing the planet for further processing potential. Marines and the 501st Tactical Combat Squadron engaged and destroyed the probes after sustained fighting, with casualties.
  • Archer-A and Nostromos Gate Strike – Commodore Amaya Blaidd ordered the USS Archer-A and USS Nostromos to disable the Tlaxcala gate’s spin motors to halt further incursions. Neutronium construction rendered the gate itself indestructible.
  • Battle of Tlaxcala – A Traxati warship engaged the Archer-A and Nostromos. The Nostromos was destroyed; the Archer-A was lost immediately after destroying the Traxati vessel. Surviving Federation ships, including the USS Pegasus and USS Deimos, evacuated escape pods and secured the system. The gate was rendered inoperative.

Capabilities Summary

  • Mastery of neutronium construction on an unprecedented scale.
  • Instantaneous interstellar transit via massive gate network.
  • Autonomous probe operations capable of complex engineering and combat roles.
  • Warships with destructive capabilities beyond current Starfleet tactical countermeasures.
  • Possible internal conflicts, as evidenced by Traxati-on-Traxati engagements.

Unknowns

  • No confirmed sighting or description of a Traxati being.
  • No knowledge of societal structure, language, or political system.
  • Unknown origin and extent of gate network.
  • Motives for occasional hostility remain speculative.
